The text extractor will allow you to extract text from any image. You may upload an image or document (.doc,.pdf) and the tool will pull text from the image. Once extracted, you can copy to your clipboard with one click. Enable 'Copy Text in Picture' In OneNote, 'File' tab - 'Options' Item. In OneNote Options window, 'Advanced' tab - 'Text recognition in pictures' group - uncheck 'Disable text recognition in pictures'. Choose Language for Make Text in Image Searchable. The Copy Text from Picture feature in OneNote 2013/2016 allows you to pull the text out from an image onto your clipboard, so you can paste and use the text anywhere. OneNote has the ability to extract text from an image.
One of the best note taking applications, OneNote, accepts a large degree of information through various methods. Text, video, and drawings are just a few of the ways that data can be entered into OneNote. However, one of my favorite features is the ability to recognize text from screenshots, scanned pages, and other images. OneNote’s Optical Character Reader (OCR) functions are incredibly helpful.
Before you begin, make sure that you have Microsoft Office with OneNote installed and running. Although I am using OneNote 2013 here, you can follow similar steps on older versions of the program as well.
Below is a screenshot of a Word document. We will use this as an example of pulling text of a screenshot.
1.Select the Insert tab from the OneNote ribbon. Then choose Pictures. Now, find your image, and import it.

2.Next, simply right-click on the image, and select Copy Text from Picture.
Your text has been copied, and it is on the clipboard. Paste it anywhere, and test it out.
Please note that this technique, like all OCR systems, will only work for images with clear and readable text. Generally, this will work on most, if not all, of your scanned documents.

Onenote Copy Text From Picture Missing Mac
A fellow member of the Victoria Office 365 Users Group recently shared his excitement at discovering the Optical character recognition (OCR) functionality in Microsoft OneNote. He was particularly excited about the “Copy Text From Picture” function that gives you the ability to copy text from an image or screenshot you’ve pasted onto a Page. It just takes one right click to open the menu – you’ll find the button right below the cut and copy buttons (see below in pink).
This feature is one I love as it is a HUGE timer saver. This reminded me that another tip worth sharing:
Tip: If you don’t want to copy/paste ALL the text from a picture, you can install a free add-on called Onetastic for OneNote (created by Microsoft Developer Omer Atay).
It adds a TON of functionality (stay tuned – I’ll be sharing more features in future posts!), but one that is worth mentioning now is a “Select Text from Image” option (see below circled in red).
“Select Text from Image” allows you to use your cursor to highlight the portion of the text you want to copy/paste it. In the example below I wanted to snag a line of text from a portion of an PDF invoice to send to a client. Instead of wasting time typing and opening up the opportunity for typos, two clicks and two keyboard shortcuts gets it done quick and clean.
Steps:
- Right click on image to select “Select Text from Image” from bottom of menu.
- Use your cursor to highlight the portion of text you want. Press Ctrl +C on your keyboard to copy the text.
- Press the “Copy Selection and Close” button to close the popup screen.
- Place your cursor on your OneNote page and press Ctrl +V on your keyboard to paste the text.
